Cool. In theory a private list that was deleted could not have its archives searched by ordinary mortals, since the actual archive files would be stored in the ../private/ area of the archive and Mailman would have no lists to authenticate against and thus to allow access via. The HTML archives could easily be moved over to the ../public/ area of Mailman or over to the regular www tree and access could then be regulated/logged via an htaccess file.
