You didn't read through Defaults.py then. ;-)

Copy these lines from Defaults.py to mm_cfg.py:

# Set these variables if you need to authenticate to your NNTP server for
# Usenet posting or reading.  If no authentication is necessary, specify None
# for both variables.
NNTP_USERNAME = None
NNTP_PASSWORD = None

I think you have to restart mailmanctl after you do this, but I'm not sure.
