In most cases it was caused by a lack of resources: - Drive space too full - Not enough RAM in the server (or alloted to the virtual host)
I've also seen it caused by certain email addresses with non-standard Ascii characters in earlier versions of Mailman. You need to look at your resources while the list is running and also make sure you are running the latest version of your Mailman branch (2.0.14 and 2.1.4).
