A few months ago, I started hosting the bogofilter mailing lists. They had been hosted elsewhere using qmail and ezmlm. Given subscriber lists, I was able to use mailman's add_members commands. With separate lists of regular and digest subscribers (and the corresponding '-r' and '-d' options) and the "--welcome-msg=n" option, I was able to subscribe everyone without any need for action by the individual subscribers. The use of MUA is much a matter of operating system used and individual preference. I've been using Sylpheed-Claws under Linux for the past year and like its GUI. I understand it's also available for Windoze.
