        You might have had a corrupt list configuration "pickle" -- all 
Mailman 2.1.x list configurations are stored in a binary format on 
disk in a Python format called a "pickle", and these sometimes get 
corrupted.  Mailman should normally be able to deal with this, as it 
can access the backup of the pickle which should be okay, but perhaps 
the backup was also corrupted.
