I think you should try tweaking the mail server to run the script as group "daemon". Or re-run configure, providing the command line option `--with-mail-gid=users'. But that's just a guess. (Well, not really a guess.) You could also go to the mailman FAQ (following the link in the footer of every email you receive from this list) and search on: group mismatch Which finds 2 FAQ entries that explain this issue in greater detail.
