I suspect that it's pretty common in cases where people get a VMware
guest OS or soemthing like that.  The hosting company / ISP is going
to want to keep close watch on port 25, but list and crm services seem
like something they'll be just as happy to delegate to clients.
Especially since there's such a wide variety of them.

There are other cases I know of, too, where people with excess
capacity allow a buddy to set up mailman on their host (this is
basically what happened with xemacs.org).
