RedirectMatch ^/mailman[/]*$ http://www.example.com/mailman/listinfo

and an off list reply to me contained

What do apache's access_log and error_log say for the access?

Nothing in error_log - access_log (at LogLevel debug) just shows:

ip - - [12/Jul/2008:14:26:24 +0100] "GET /mailman HTTP/1.1" 302 307 "-"
"Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906
Firefox/3.0"

which looks like the URL you're going to is http://.../mailman and getting redirected (302 status) as opposed to http://.../mailman/listinfo.

This, together with the fact that you say (in another off list message) that the problem only occurs with listinfo, seems to say that the problem is somehow related to the RedirectMatch. Presumably, it doesn't really say "www.example.com". What does it say? and what is the access_log entry immediately following the one above for the same IP?
