Thanks to everyone for the follow-ups. Mark:
I looked at my aliases file (/etc/aliases) and you're correct. My 'mailman' aliases were listed as : > mailman: "|/var/lib/mailman/mail post mailman" > > etc. instead of > > mailman: "|/var/lib/mailman/mail/mailman post mailman" Those were the defaults that the installation indicated I should add for the mailman list. I didn't think to much of it at the time, but I installed from the Ubuntu package using apt-get after a failed attempt from source (really not sure what I was doing wrong, but oh well). I guess the Ubuntu package (as usual) follows a different directory convention that what's expected. I changed the aliases file, did a `newaliases`, and reloaded Postfix. Within a few seconds the backed-up messages poured into my inbox and the error is no long showing in the log file. Also, Grant, thanks for your suggestion. I made sure the proper user had permission on /var/lib/mailman/mail/mailman. It wasn't until Mark's email that I put 2 and 2 together. Thanks everyone!!
