I guess I don't know how to use patch. Better documentation would be
helpful.

# patch --verbose -i ../mailman-FHS.patch

Hmm...  Looks like a unified diff to me...
can't find file to patch at input line 5
Perhaps you should have used the -p or --strip option?

Before I screw it up, is it wanting to patch the file listed in the diff
command (i.e. check_perms)? I also assume I need to use -u.
