It's been a decade since I looked into the wrapper code, but I suspect that the reason for the odd phrasing about "log will be written" is due to the wrapper not knowing where to write logs, and passing them to the Python code to handle. If the problem was that there was no python binary, the log didn't get handled and wrtten. Just guessing. Glad something I wrote gave you the clue you needed!
