War driving significa andar en un auto con una laptop y una tarjeta wireless, la cual va checando información del medio ambiente, de esta manera puede detectar access points abiertos (a los cuales se les llama "hotspots"), de los que se puede uno colgar para tener conexión a la red. En muchos lugares se acostumbra hacer esto, y ya se puede crear un mapa con los hotspots identificados, digamos en av. lopez mateos esq. con 1er anillo hay un hotspot, en la alameda hay otro, etc (no digo que realmente existan, son ejemplos)
