You should read the stuff on the MailMate website about Gmail. To some extent MailMate could have similar problems to Mail.app with Gmail. Gmail uses a nonstandard, undocumented fork of IMAP, and any mail client that deals with it needs to kludge things a bit.

If you don't use labels that much in Gmail, them there might not be any problems, but setting things up initially takes a little work.

You mean downsampling within MailMate? No.

You can make a feature request in the issue tracker at freron.lighthousespp.com.
