That doesn't work if you just want to map "t" (with no modifier keys) to
an action, does it?

For what it's worth, I simply did all of these re-bindings using OS
X's native Keyboard control panel. I specified the keyboard
equivalent I wanted for the displayed menu item, and that overrides
whatever MailMate has as a default.
System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts -> App Shortcuts
I have dozens for various apps....may help you. I use it for MailMate
pretty heavily now.
