I guess the "Key Repeat" setting is the relevant here, and I've tried

Yes, that should be fine. I tried
[googling](http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/10467/how-to-increase-keyboard-key-repeat-rate-on-os-x)
and this appears to be 0.03 seconds. (It's possible to get it down to
0.015.)
It's not configurable, but I guess it could be. It's currently 0.05
seconds.
Hm. I've just tried again with <Cursor-Up>, and it seems it doesn't
render every email, only about every 5th or every 10th. But still, it
doesn't move as fast as it could.
I'm actually seeing something similar. I'm not quite sure why. Every
time the selection changes then the delay is reset. The only explanation
is that it some times takes more than 0.05 seconds for MailMate to
handle the next key-event. I'll look into this.
(And why does it render any email while I'm still holding down the
key?)
The code handling selection changes in the messages outline does not
really know anything about why it has been asked to move the cursor. I
would prefer to keep it that way.
I don't know how it works for others, but if others experience the
same problem, may I suggest to set the render delay to the keyboard
repeat interval plus epsilon?
I'm afraid that would be too slow for long key repeat intervals (at
least when MailMate does not immediately update when the key is
released).
