Mailmate Help “encourages the use of Smart Mailboxes”. If Smart

would get vast and unwieldy.
I have completely stopped sorting mail in different folders since
moving to MailMate. I just dump everything in to “Archive” and use
the smart folders to do all the sorting for me. My archive folder have
60000+ messages, zero problems.
Let me guess - you don't use a phone to access your mail ? :)
That is my reason for still using folders, even after mailmate. Without
folders reading mails on the phone would be a nightmare to me.

I can now quickly add and change folders, have mail show up in several
"folders" at the same time (per company and per project e.g.) and have
one smart folder that automatically creates sub mailboxes for all my
mailing lists just to name a few things. Start attaching rules to a
smart folder and you can do some really advanced mail handling.
I have set up my own key bindings so “i” will select the inbox,
“a” will archive mail, “d” will delete them, “f” flag them
and “r” for making a reply. This takes care of most of my mail
interaction and leaves the inbox empty.
