I’m about to take the plunge with MailMate after using Apple Mail for the last
10 or so years. I have a general idea of how IMAP works but have never used an
IMAP mail client. I have a fairly elaborate folder structure and 80+ rules to
filter emails into different folders, depending on who the emails are to or
from. I’m running OS X 10.9.5. With the help of my ISP, I’ve entered my IMAP
and SMTP servers into MailMate.

I’m envisioning the following workflow to move from Apple Mail to MailMate:

1) Draw up notes about my Mail rules: what senders/recipients I search for,
what folder to move a given email into.
2) Pull down incoming mail into Mail from the server, presumably for the last
time. I’m having Mail delete emails from the server, so at this point Mail
should have all my mail, until new incoming mail arrives.
3) Import my Mail database into MailMate.
4) Re-create my Mail rules in MailMate.

At this point, I would think that I could start using MailMate. Does this sound
reasonable, and am I overlooking anything? Thank you.
