No, there is no concept of “focus” in the thread arcs view and therefore also no way to use the keyboard to navigate.

This only happens if the message is not in the current mailbox (if I remember correctly). I guess there could be a setting to switch to the IMAP mailbox of the message (or maybe All Messages), but I'm not sure that's what you want.
I have only found the way to do it with the mouse, every time I click over a node, a new window is opened.
Let me know if this also happens if the email is in the currently displayed mailbox. In that case it would be a bug.
