thanks a lot! Although I couldn’t find command ‘go back to last
view’ in MailMate helpfile, I’ve remapped `Esc` to `Cmd+Ctrl+[` via
BetterTouchTool and it works like a charm now!

Not really. But the default ‘go back to last view’ is `Cmd+Ctrl+[`
or `Cmd+Ctrl+Alt+(`. Maybe that is better than using `Esc`? Take a
look at the *Custom Keybindings* section of the MailMate helpfile if
you want to remap the keybindings.
