Searching the list archives, I found these, where Benny clarifies the 
distinction, and mentions his plan to end the 2.0BETA branch:

Bottom line, yes you would definitely be better off on the 5xxx versions, and 
using the option key when checking for updates to get the latest test releases 
of the 1.x branch.
