You can freely pick the redirect-from address when redirecting.
When I do so i get the following error:

That's a message from your SMTP server, which apparently restricts the
addresses that you can send from, even after authenticating.
MM can construct mail with whatever sender you want it to have, but if
you don't have a SMTP server willing to accept that mail, it won't go
anywhere.
