Sounds like this might be two symptoms of the same bug. Does this happen
with the latest test release: Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check
Now” in the Software Update settings pane to get the latest test
release.
Does it perhaps only happen when MailMate crashes, that is, you cannot
reproduce it by simply quitting and relaunching MailMate?
