You can try enabling the alternative SMTP server hidden preference. See
https://manual.mailmate-app.com/hidden_preferences.html and
https://lists.freron.com/mailmate/2016-January/005366.html.
I use it and find that it gives more visibility and control over which
SMTP server is being used. It might help you fix your issue, or work
around it.
