Concur. On most of the servers that I run, *.members.linode.com
is blocked (among other things) because Linode has spent years making
a very convincing argument that -- at best -- they're incompetent.

Wouldn't call them the 'worst' out there though statistically, there are others like ColoCrossing ..

But it has got to the point that our guys have rules that use the fact that you are on Linode space, certain behaviors will get you straight to the permanent reject really fast, with less 'forgiveness'.

But the biggest issue is when these operators refuse to set up proper 'rwhois' or SWIP so that the actual operators can determined and judged.

So by letting the bad operators set up shop, the good operators unfortunately get tarred and feathered with the same brush.

Of course, like anything, people will eventually speak with their wallets.

They should of course realize it is a lot harder to regain a good reputation, than keeping one.

And of course, it SHOULD be easier for them to detect behaviors than us at the receiving end. (Doesn't your routers have the ability to generate alerts when outbound SMTP TCP traffic spikes?)

But the advent of 'rent by the minute' services, means by the time you report it, and they respond, the offender could already be long gone..

As John pointed out, we shouldnt' have report it. More people would report to 'abuse@' if it made a difference.

Reporting to abuse@ is great to alert an operator of something that they may not be aware of... but seem fruitless when you know they should be able to be aware of the problem..

To the original complainer, simply insist that Linode give you an 'rwhois' entry, or find another provider...

(Strangely, this block of Linode space hasn't seen as many reports as other parts of their IP space)

But it isnt' only Linode, it is easy to callout many CDN (content delivery networks) as well .. (Hi Amazon, Digital Ocean and others..)
