Hi List

A customer told us he is getting timeouts trying to send emails to a
recipient under @accountprotection.microsoft.com. It looks like he is
trying to reply some sort of challenge response system which I guess is
not meant to be used by email.

mail.msa.msidentity.com mail is handled by 5 mx1.hotmail.com.
mail.msa.msidentity.com mail is handled by 5 mx2.hotmail.com.
mail.msa.msidentity.com mail is handled by 5 mx3.hotmail.com.
mail.msa.msidentity.com mail is handled by 5 mx4.hotmail.com.
mail.msa.msidentity.com mail is handled by 10
accountprotection-microsoft-com.mail.protection.outlook.com.

Each of the MX?.hotmail.com hostname resolves to several IP
Addresses, none of which is reachable.

Our postfix never reaches the prio 10 MX, which would accept the email,
because it times out while cycling through all the Prio 5 MX IP
Addresses.

Anyone else seen this problem? Know outage @ Microsoft? Or have
they phased out the hotmail.com MX and forgotten this subdomain, as I
see that @hotmail.com itself has different MXes.

Wouldn't that also cause problem to certain spam filters which check if
the sending domain MX is valid and reachable?

Mit freundlichen Grüssen
