Hi everyone,

It might also be worth noting that we launched the same question on EmailGeeks
and it seems we’re not the only ones facing this issue with Gmail. Others have
seen the same behavior without being able to find a clear cause or being able
to reproduce the issue properly.

Kind regards,

Melissa

Hi Adrian,

Nice to hear from you ☺ was cool to see you at RPWT!

Good to know, but that is not emails (e.g. you can see in the screenshot that
the button for the Google link just shows with ‘Google’ as text.:

[cid:[email protected]]

It really looks like an issue on Gmail’s side to be honest; we’ve received
responses from other ESPs that they see the same, and that they also can’t see
anything wrong on their end.

Cheers,

Jon

Ps nice domain, @nabar.ro :D

Hi Jon

This may no longer be the case, but I used to see these a lot in cases where a
URL was displayed in HTML, but was linked to somewhere else (i.e. a tracked
link).

e.g.

Visit http://web.brand.com/amazingdeals

Could this apply to your situation?

Regards,
Adrian

Dear Mailop,

Since the beginning of this month we have seen Gmail bringing up a ‘Suspicious
Link’ warning when clicking a link. The behaviour is very inconsistent;
warnings can appear and then not appear when testing with the same IP, sender
subdomain, content, etc and only a few minutes difference.

Others have also recently reported this issue, e.g. see: Others have also
reported this recently; seehttps://support.google.com/mail/thread/4242603?hl=en

I was wondering if anyone here in Mailop has seen these warnings and how they
managed to solve it.

Example with a tracked link:

Example with an untracked link (to google.be):
<image005.jpg>

Things we tested on our side:

 * Check the subdomain reputation in Google Postmaster: ok
 * Check the IP reputation in Google Postmaster: ok
 * Check the Spam Complaint rate for the subdomain in Google Postmaster: ok
 * Check that the IP is not on any blacklists: ok
 * Check that the subdomain does not make too many redirects: ok
 * Run a Spamassasin check on the content: ok
 * Run a Google Safe Browsing check on the subdomain
(usinghttps://transparencyreport.google.com/safe-browsing/search): ok
 * Check that all authentication is resolving (SPF, DKIM & DMARC): ok
 * Check that that TLS 1.2 is enabled and used with Gmail: ok
 * Check that the subdomain has a valid SSL record: ok

Since we can’t see any issues in these checks, we reached out to Google via
their Bulk Sender Contact Form; but without much luck so far.

Any hints as to what could be causing this would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Jon
