Out of curiosity, how does a spammer or phisher exploit this? Presumably some kind of "reply to a
mailing list post from user to get into inbox"? Presumably that's a relatively small percentage of
total outbound mail volume (and at least to some extent could be detected by seeing mailing list
mails come back in elsewhere)?
I figure "what they used to do" isn't "secret sauce", hopefully :).
PS At least from where I sit, I'd like to commend gmail for never, once, rejecting or spam-boxing
mail from my various small-volume-sending servers over the year. I know its not the only experience
out there, but unlike most other large providers, gmail has been a reliable email recipient in my book.
