A score of 5.8 on SpamAssassin rules is fairly low. It would be more advisable for you to consider adjusting your settings. SpamAssassin is designed in such a way that it will always trigger a variety of rules for every email, legit or otherwise. It shouldn't be too strange to see a legit email in the range of 3-5, and I'd say 5.8 isn't too far out from there.

We filed an abuse report with Microsoft for some bad emails.

Normally we don't bother, but these emails were concerning enough that we thought we should bring them to Microsoft's attention. While it would be nice if Microsoft did a better job at filtering outbound emails, that's not the point of this post here.

We got back a "Microsoft CERT Report <case number> Received" email, which email went straight to Junk, with the following SpamAssassin tests firing:

X-Spam-Status: Yes, score=5.824 required=3.8 tests=[DATE_IN_PAST_03_06=1.076, DKIMWL_WL_HIGH=-0.001, DKIM_SIGNED=0.1, DKIM_VALID=-0.1, DKIM_VALID_AU=-0.1,
 DKIM_VALID_EF=-0.1, FORGED_SPF_HELO=1, HTML_FONT_LOW_CONTRAST=0.001,
 HTML_MESSAGE=0.001, MISSING_HEADERS=2, RCVD_IN_DNSWL_HI=0.001,
RCVD_IN_MSPIKE_H2=-0.001, REPLYTO_WITHOUT_TO_CC=1.946, SPF_HELO_PASS=-0.001, SPF_NONE=0.001, T_KAM_HTML_FONT_INVALID=0.01, T_SCC_BODY_TEXT_LINE=-0.01,
 URI_TRUNCATED=0.001] autolearn=disabled

In case anyone else is waiting for responses from Microsoft, recommend you check your Junk/Spam folder.

Hope that helps,
Mark
