And of course, this 'could' be caused by backscatter on their servers, if the emails originated from your server ;)

Ensure your domains have SPF records of course, but we need more information on the list to determine if this is forgeries, or an eBay inherent problem.

Suggest you send more headers to the list for comments. .

Is there any way to contact them so they can figure out

Have you inspected the SMTP headers and grepped mail
server logs?

Of course.
It comes from the ebay servers and the RCPT TO is root@our.domain.

In this case there are some easy options -- in addition to reporting
to SpamCop.net (and any other relevant services), add their IP
address to your block-and-forget list at the firewall level -- if you
utilize this option.

Or, if you don't want to block eBay (e.g., because other users on
your system might legitimately be eBay members), then set up a
server-side rule that bounces their messages to your root account and
responds with a 5yz SMTP status accompanied by a customized message
indicating that they're blocked for not confirming opt-in.

You might also want to notify complainl...@ebay.com that they should
contact you to arrange de-listing, which will hopefully get the
attention of someone at eBay who can fix things with a clue-by-four.
