This sounds a lot like my own situation. The domain has been active 20+ years,
only a handful of users, but success in getting mail from here inboxed at
gmail is far from guaranteed.

And of course, the only way to get an actual response from them is to complain
loudly here (as I did in January, see the list archives).

Their attitude seems to be that unless you are sending above an arbitraryly
set minimum number of messages per time unit (I forget which), the basically
do not care one way or another, and their Rube Goldberg contraption for mail
filtering will not produce consistent results unless fed a sufficient number
of messages.

And of course, whoever wrote/designed/hacked together the thing in the first
place is no longer around, and the people there now seem to be scared of
touching
the thing.

I maintain a gmail account myself mainly because I own Android devices, but
I would not recommend anybody use that service for any other purpose.

However, some of my contacts work for companies that have outsourced their mail
service to Google, and the gmail account has proven to be useful in contacting
those persons when gmail is not cooperating.

I would of course welcome any development that would indicate that Google are
shifting away from the attitude of "if you're not us, you're one of the little
people, and the little people have no business running an email service".

All the best,
Peter
