I second that suggestion... actually, was thinking of something of the such
the other day.
Reason:
Now that Gtalk now has video, I have turned this on in one of my accounts
just for this very purpose.  Before, I never use Gtalk inside of Gmail, but
through my Adium client instead.

I also use the CSS option to "hide" the Gtalk window, but have disabled that
since the intro of video chat.  Now, the chat window is shown in all my
Mailplane-hosted accounts - something that I wish I had more control over.

So yeah... Richard's suggestion is a good one, for sure :)
