Hi Anamaria, Thanks for your problem report. The upside down status icon means you have enabled the "Do not disturb" mode: http://mailplaneapp.com/features/entry/do_not_disturb_mode/
To turn it off, click the status icon and then uncheck "Do not disturb" (second menu item). The menu item can be found in the "Mailplane" menu, too.
