I finally got it to work but uninstalling gears from Safari and reinstalling it. Until I did that there wasn't Mailplane->Google Gears Settings setting. Now it seems to work fine offline. I may be mistaken but didn't you say Ruben that MailPlane ran it's own instance of gears? BTW.. on or offline it is a terrific application!
