I think a very useful feature to have would be some sort of 'tabs' functionality. I love using mailplane but sometimes I wish I could open multiple emails in tabs within the program so I can remember to go back to them when I have to. I do this in web browsers all the time.
Similarly, being able to open new windows not just to compose or view an inbox message would be very useful as well. It would be great to have the main window with whatever I want in it plus the option to open another window (Better known as another 'view' essentially of the inbox) where i could also do whatever, search for something, view a message, anything.
