So I love the growl notification when someone replies to my chat and gmail is in the background...problem is i click on the growl notification and google talk opens in its own little window. Actually I like how this window works since it doesn't obscure my mail and keeps a separate window with tabs for each person i am chatting with. This window does lose connection a lot and sometimes if I have my mail window open I get half the responses in the mail window and half the responses in the talk window.
