Hi David,
- Command-Click the "Sign out" link (hold down the Command key until
you see the "Sign in" page).
- Do a Mailplane->Empty Cache
- Restart Mailplane

Another thing to try:
- Disable "Use a secure connection" for the account in your Account
preferences.
- Make sure Gmail > Settings > Always use https is disabled too.
- Restart Mailplane to apply.

Does it make a difference?
