The Gmail view link is great and doesn't need to download anything. But QuickLook supports more file formats.
If QuickLook would be integrated, then the the files would be downloaded to a temporary location to provide the QuickLook. Only if the user wants to keep the file, it would be moved to Downloads (or equivalent) folder.
