I'm curious why stylesheets are not applied to rich text composition?

While I would like to use plain text, I use rich text so that forwarding of
rich text emails and drag & drop of images work correctly - so I would
prefer that rich text composition uses the stylesheet I use to change my
default font, assuming that is possible.
