well, what I do is a step in the direction you intend, maybe, let me explain. Gmail has a nice feature whereby you can configure other email accounts as senders of email, so that you can appear as a different "user" though you still use the very same Gmail account. Also, you can easily configure mail forwarding and/or POP/IMAP pull by Gmail onto different email accounts, and pull all the different accounts into one single Gmail mailbox. You can then use labels and filters to manage your incoming email, so that it is more manageable, even though it's all in one single mailbox and Gmail account. The cool thing with this is that Gmail will automagically use the same account as "From", if the email you are responding to comes from another mailbox that is configured as a possible sender. So, over and all, unless you have a very complicated setup, you might be able to solve your issue using one single Gmail account, if properly configured.
