Strangely, the issue has again disappeared for the past few days.

What was weird was that I would be able to switch to those accounts
via the menubar and it would log in with no problem.

So the account information was correct and the login would occur
without problem.  Just the background checking was somehow having
trouble.

But not anymore, and I can't think of anything that has changed since.
