Unfortunately this seems to be a Firefox bug. BTW: Another Mailplane/Firefox user was able to solve the problem: "Apparently, whenever you upgrade to the newest Firefox version, the box under Firefox Preferences that says "when I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately" gets unclicked. I just clicked that box again, and now everything's working fine."
