Do you use the 'Preview Pane' lab feature. In my case it disables g+l. Switching off the lab feature does solve the issue. As an alternative you can also try Mailplane's Cmd-Opt-G (Mail > Goto > Navigate...) keyboard shortcut. I'm not sure about j,k,n,p as they seem to work fine on my end.
