I would be willing to guess that the case sensitive file system formatting
is the cause. Can you temporarily try it on another drive or partition that
is HFS+ Journaled case insensitive?

If not, perhaps you have a spare thumb or USB/External Drive, or even make a
virtual drive in Disk Utility with the different formatting options.

*You may have to get a little crafty with symbolic-links, hard-links, or
aliases back to the temporary media in order to trick **MailPlane** into
thinking it is working in the correct areas.*

One "hack" I have deployed in the past was to make a new account, plug in an
external FW drive, ( or this may work with a Disk Image ), format it HFS+,
Journaled, case insensitive, and mount it to /Users/test_user. ( Or whatever
your test user name was )

You should probably do this while *NOT* logged into the account. I don't
think OS X is going to like a multi-case sensitive file system running on
live accounts. But it will accomplish the test so you know if it is worth
the trouble of reformatting and imaging your data back to the newly
reformatted drive,

Why are you going with case-sensitive or is this UFS or similar? If so, any
particular reason why?

You may want to keep your logs in case the MailPlane folks want to try to
make their application work on case sensitive file systems under Mac OS X.
I am sure one day Apple will surprise us all with a set of mandatory
changes.
