Ah ha,

That helped me think I know what is going on.  I had never considered that
gmail was changing #id and sometimes .class names dynamically. I thought for
sure within different themes, but not on reload or some other session
expiry.  Time for more experimenting.

Thanks for letting me know what the .css can affect.
