I have used Mailplane for about 2 years. I use it for several GMail based accounts. Some of these accounts are Google Apps GMail and some are regular GMail. Never had any significant problems thus far with Mailplane and I like it very much...
However, my most-used account cannot send email as of three days ago. I can receive email but cannot reply or create a new email. There is an error that says "Error Your action was unsuccessful. Please try again." This account is a Google Apps GMail account. The other accounts are OK to send. Also, the bad account in question still works fine when accessing through a browser.
