Thanks Jessica, these steps haven't helped my problem unfortunately. 

Is there anything else you can think of that I can try? It's very 
frustrating, especially as it seems others are not having this issue - the 
only thing I have changed is install the Mailplane update. I am still on 
osx 10.7, do you think this could be causing my problems?
