This was also happening to me. I believe the issue first came up when I accidentally closed the app immediately after submitting my login credentials, before the login window disappeared on its own. In future sessions, the login window persisted.
Here's how I solved the problem. In the directory ~/Library/Application Support/Mailplane, there is a file named "[account name]@gmail.com_S.cookies".
