Hi, Sorry to dig this thread back up but I see you're approaching the 3.0 release and this still doesn't work.
This would be a big feature for a lot of people, I think. I've mostly switched back to browser-Gmail because of how often I need image copy-paste. Also, if you are not going to get this working might I suggest at least giving users the heads up that it will appear as though the images have been pasted inline (but they will be instantly lost upon save/send).
