Exactly. Rich Text is not HTML. An Google does't support html the way
Mailplane 2 used to do.

The good news is that I've found a way around this that may be helpful.
It's a pity though that Mailplane decided to disable this functionality
once it had it on and working.

Graham, you should check this tip below. I tried it today to set a HTML
signature directly on my GoogleApp settings and it worked:
