Add me to this request as well. The behavior of this feature is a non-starter for me; I currently have the calendar functionality completely disabled in Mailplane because it's so intrusive. If this isn't something you're likely to be fixing soon, I'll probably just start looking elsewhere for a mail/calendar solution (which would make me sad because I really like Mailplane and I've been using it for awhile now).
